That post (Well, maybe not a post, but… story?) was absolutely fantastic.

My husband and I are looking forward to our 8th wedding anniversary this September. We have 3 wonderful kids, good jobs, a nice house, and a little extra money in the bank (not much, but more than we’ve ever had before). The first five years of our marriage, however, were a struggle financially. As a brand new teacher, my husband was paid very little, and I was still in graduate school living on a measly TA stipend and student loans. We started our family, I switched graduate programs, and we were living paycheck to paycheck, trying desperately to make ends meet. We both look back on those earlier days, glad that they are behind us (and hoping that more lean days aren’t just around the corner), but we appreciate what we had to go through. In the end, it’s only made us stronger.

Very thought-provoking, well-written piece. That said, I don’t think I’ve ever been more grateful for my boring, logical engineering degree, or my boring, dependable engineering job, as if I had to deal with that kind of stress, I’d be huddled in a corner, rocking back and forth, mumbling the dialogue from Star Wars, or something. (Which actually is pretty close to what I did while trying to *obtain* said engineering degree… ’twasn’t pretty.)
